Star signs represent twelve equal segments of the sky, each represented by a symbol.

Together these are called the Zodiac, and form form a circle around Earth.

Each segment is called a constellation which is centered on the ecliptic plane.

(The ecliptic plane is the plane of the Earth's orbit around the Sun. To us it is the apparent path that the Sun follows through the sky over the course of the year).

According to Astrology, celestial phenomena in the zodiac reflect or govern human activity.

Thus the twelve Star signs are held to represent twelve basic personality types.

As the Earth revolves around the Sun , a different part of the sky becomes visible each month, thus a different one of these 12 constellations can be seen above the horizon.

The constellation visible at the time of your birth represents your Birth Sign, or Sun Sign.

These Sun signs can give us insights into the talents and special qualities we posses as well as our day to day living.

We can discover a great deal of relevant information about ourselves through reading about our Zodiac sign.

As a long time psychic and clairvoyant I have these observations to make about using astrology and horoscopes :


First and foremost - you have free will! - That is a Universal Law.
The guide lines - and that is what your horoscope is - are showing you what life lessons are currently there for you to learn.
Of course if you do not learn your life lessons as they present, than you are doomed to have to repeat them until they are learnt.
In my humble opinion, your life is not pre-destined, however you do have certain life lessons to learn or fulfill, regardless of which life path you choose.
In other words - your horoscope does not determine your fate!

The function of the cycles of your star signs is not to rule your life, but to reveal your path, your life lessons, to you.

Cusps

If you were born on the first or last day of a Sun sign, it is said that you were born on a cusp.

When that is the case, you will benefit from reading your own Sun sign and the Sun sign that ends or begins adjacent to your date of birth.

As an example : if your birth date is June 21, your Sun sign is Gemini, but you also have some Cancer traits as well.
